Overview
The Psychology Internship Program at Western Missouri Mental Health Center has been fully accredited by the American Psychological Association since 1963. The program provides a wide range of training experiences and opportunities for in-depth, comprehensive learning. The program allows interns to focus on areas of interest with support and guidance from staff. There are currently three clinical postdoctoral positions in Adult Psychiatry, and one postdoctoral forensic position at Western Missouri Mental Health Center for which interns are welcome and encouraged to apply.
The primary goal of the psychology internship program at Western Missouri Mental Health Center is to prepare interns to function autonomously in a broad range of applied psychology settings. The internship integrates scientific, clinical, and ethical knowledge in the development of skills for the practice of professional psychology. The program is designed to refine an intern’s skills in assessment, treatment, and consultation through didactic and experiential training.
The Western Missouri Mental Health Center Internship Program is based on The Scholar-Practitioner Model. Principles inherent in this model guide the development of training experiences. These experiences are designed to produce students with skills to think critically and evaluate research knowledge in Psychology and apply it to the practice of psychology. The objectives of the Psychology Internship Program are accomplished by the measurable outcomes of three core competencies: Competency 1 – Proficiency in Clinical Intervention, Competency 2 – Proficiency in Assessment, and Competency 3 – Development as a Professional Psychologist.
